On Monday, 2/13 Honey was hit by a car and left to die.
Through the efforts of so many and the collaboration of <b>Leech Lake Legacy</b> and
<b>Pet Haven</b>, sweet Honey has been given a new beginning. Pet Haven, acted
quickly, took her into their foster program, ensured she had the necessary
medical care and on Thursday, 2/16 had surgery to repair her broken leg.
<b><i>Honey’s overall care will cost Pet Haven almost $5,000</i></b>. We believe she’s worth it, and we hope
you will too. The following video was created to share Honey’s story …
she is loved deeply and despite all she’s been through has the most
incredible gentle spirit and even looks like she’s smiling <span style="font-family: Wingdings;">J</span><br />

story, the importance of all of us working together on behalf of these precious
animals and how so many in the community stepped up to advocate for Honey, the
close call and the struggles of those of us in the front line of animal rescue,
and how an injured stray dog up at a Reservation 3 hours north of here touched
the hearts of so many. </span></span></div>

division leadership team for their flexibility and willingness to react and
respond to an urgent situation; to Pet Haven board of directors for their
willingness to take on the care of Honey and her medical expenses; to Dinie for

A half grown puppy was found dead, starved to death, in the kennel he was kept in when rescuers became aware of his plight. <div><br /></div><div>Spike was taken to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue after rescue, and then made his journey to Pet Haven after filling up on lots of water and small amounts of food served frequently until he began to gain weight again. He is believed to be about 3 yrs of age. </div><div><br /></div><div>He came to Pet Haven knowing the hand signal for sit. He is fully house-trained. He rides well in the car. He can be kenneled in the house when you are gone but is trustworthy to be left out of a kennel too. He loves other dogs and plays well with them or by himself. He weighs about 60 lbs.</div><div><br /></div><div>Spike loves to be by your side. I wanted to drop you a line and send a few pictures to let you know how our little girl is doing. Penny is growing up but still has a lot of puppy in her. She </i><u><i>LOVES</i></u><i> to play, go for walks, tease us with her toys, crawl up on a pile of pillows, and cuddle. She has totally taken over our house and hearts. I'm pretty sure we have become her pets. My grand-kids love her and are always posting pictures of her on their Facebook accounts. Everyone that has spent time at our house smiles the minute they see her. She smiles back! She's pretty much staying at a weight of 72 pounds and the our vet and staff laugh at her when we take her in as she is trying to kiss everyone and get the heck out of their! She has also learned to be a good girl when we take her in to be groomed. Nail cutting is something she does not enjoy but she has the most loving disposition and her defense when she is uncomfortable is to give kisses. She also has a squirrel that lives in one of the trees in her back yard who she loves to chase. I think the squirrel gets the better of her as it jumps from tree to tree while scolding her with her following on the ground. It is hard to believe she has been with us over a year. The last picture of her laying on her back (abused dog) is one of the latest and you can see how much she has grown.<br /><br />Thanks again to you and all those at Pet Haven that made Penny's happy life possible. Soon the family discovered that he pounced at things just as Tigger does in Winnie the Pooh! What better name?<div><br /></div><div>Here are some of the things Tigger's family remember about him:</div><div><br /></div><div><blockquote type="cite" style=" ;font-family:Helvetica;font-size:medium;"><div><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:85%;color:black;"><div>Tigger loved to go for car rides, camping and walks. You'll get a personality with few surprises and behaviors that you will know how to deal with. We can tell you about favorite spots to be patted and itched, favorite toys, signals to go outside and many more details.<div><br /></div><div>Russ is one of those guys - he's been in one foster home for awhile and has moved to another one to broaden his experiences with other dogs, people and a cat!</div><div><br /></div><div>S-h-h-h-h </div><div><br /></div><div>Russ has been seen sleeping in a dog bed with that cat! Maybe it is a vegan specialty, vegetarian chili, duck or deer that were recently gotten this fall, wild rice, green bean casserole, maybe even mac and cheese!<div><br /></div><div>Our dogs would like to tell you some of the things they're thankful for too - </div><div><br /></div><div>A filled food bowl is always good - </div><div><br /></div><div>Maybe a kong with peanut butter in it - </div><div><br /></div><div>A friendly person to get pats and tummy rubs from - </div><div><br /></div><div>A warm spot to sleep, out of the cold and precipitation - </div><div><br /></div><div>A walk or a good game of tug-of-war - </div><div><br /></div><div>And, of course, a person or persons to love them. </div><div><br /></div><div>When we foster, we make our foster dog or cat a part of our family. They are treated, not as a burden or someone taking up space, but as a part of the family. So they know they are at home now - we hope that their forever home is just around the corner - but for now, this is home and it is great!</div><div><br /></div><div>Spread the word about our dogs, and cats, waiting for homes!</div><div><br /></div><div>Happy Thanksgiving from some of our adoptable dogs - </div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iLiNQV_WWww/TsvUE_Yr-EI/AAAAAAAACc8/QP7eJ6tD_b0/s1600/Bella.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="float:left;
