Meet Russell ... Mr. Personality!!

Russell is 10 years young. He wants you to know that he still has many years left in him and he hopes that some very special person will consider opening up their heart and home to this handsome boy ... he has been in Pet Haven's foster program now for a little over two years. Please help us get the word out about Russell!


Mr. Personality loves his people! Russell is a Lhasa Apso/Dandi Dinmont Terrier Mix. He loves all people he meets and dogs too! He likes to spend his time outside or just hanging out with his people. Russell would be great for an older person or a family that isn’t looking for a pup with boundless energy. He’s content just laying next to his family on the porch and a scratch behind the ear. He is crazy for car rides and will wait quietly in the car for his foster Mom to come out of the store. Russell loves all people he meets and has had a lot of contact with other dogs.

He also fancies himself as a protector, according to his foster Mom Sandy: “Russell likes to "scout" the yard, making sure no unwanted dogs or cats are near. He would spend the whole day outside if he could. We have a couple of neighbors who have big dogs (Vizsla & a Golden). He loves to run (I say that with a smirk, he can't run for very long!) nonetheless he thinks he's running the fence with them, tail wagging all the way.”

He also enjoys walks but does like to come across as a tough guy to bigger dogs when they first meet. Russell may be a little guy but he doesn’t want to be treated like one! He isn’t thrilled with being picked up but would prefer to lay next to you instead. He knows a trick or two and is very proud when he completes them. This pup is completely crate trained and can be trusted on his own at home. His new forever family will be lucky to have this easy going guy!

Adoption Events Dec 4th

Hey everyone, even with the snow Russ will be at our small dog adoption event on Saturday December 4th at the Chuck & Don's Wayzata, 1147 Wayzata Blvd. E, from 10-12. Shovel your way out and come say hello.

Joe the chocolate lab will be greeting his fans at our large dog adoption event Saturday December 4th at the PetCo Eden Prairie, 8020 Glen Lane, from 10-12. This will be Joe's debut so please come out and make him feel welcome.

Richfield All Dog Adoption Event July 31st!

Pet Haven is having an all dog, large and small, adoption event tomorrow Saturday July 31st at the Richfield Petco this Saturday from 10-12.

Thunder an 8 year old Saint/border collie mix would love to meet you.

Russell the Lhasa/Bichon mix has not been to an adoption event for a while so this is your chance to come visit with him.

Chester a 40lb lab mix is looking for his forever home tomorrow. He is the perfect size for city dwellers. These dogs plus others will be awaiting their adoring fans. Please check Petfinder for more information. See you tomorrow.

Russell needs a foster home

Russell is a 10 year old bichon/lhaso apso mix who would love to just lounge around with you. He's not much of a lap dog and would rather just be by your side and would like for someone who can be content just letting him be :)


He's house-trained and crate-trained and can be trusted when you're running around doing errands, or working!

Big dogs are a little intimidating for this little guy so it would be best for Russell to be fostered or adopted by someone who has either other little/small dogs or no dogs. He's currently being fostered in a home with a big dog  and as much as his foster loves him she knows that Russell would be happier in a home without a big dog terrorizing the little guy.

Additional info from his current foster mom: "Russell has arthritis and has trouble with too many steps. We have 5 steps on the deck and that is about all he is able to handle. Funny cause he runs in the yard like a 2 year old if he sees a squirrel! He is taking Rimadyl for that."

Russell - playing with the big dogs now!

We recently got an update from Russell's foster family on how the playful guy is doing. We often discover personalities of our foster dogs start to emerge while in loving care of their foster homes:

"Russell came from a home where a large dog intimidated him everyday. He did not like any big dogs and would bark and bark at them. Well, as the story continues, he has met Charlie(a yorkie) & Winston (a big black lab ) He has become used to them now, the barking has subsided! Last weekend the dogs came to visit. Winnie runs like the wind in our big backyard, Charlie always follows. This time Russell joined in! Running back and forth was Russell with his short little legs. This went on for at least 10 minutes, that is a long time for senior who’s legs are less than 6”.

He had so much fun, we could almost see him laughing as he ran with that big dog!!! Remember a small dog lives to an old age. He’s 81/2 years old but once in awhile he’ll surprise us with a burst of energy. He has come so far in the 2 1/2 months we’ve had him. He’s a loyal little man who just wants to land in a good home... consider meeting him."

Adoption Event Tomorrow!

Russell: Little Man Looking for Love

Sweet Russell is a 9.5 year old Lhasa Apso/Bichon Frise mix. He came in to Pet Haven care with a cherry eye, which has been surgically repaired. His coat was also pretty matted up, but he's been groomed and now has silky soft hair for his adoring fans to pet. He's a happy guy who wants nothing more than to hang out with his people. He'd prefer to be the only dog in his forever home because it means more attention for him. He needs to be in a home without small children. He does well with them at our adoption events, but he'd prefer not to have to live with them. He also likes to channel his inner hound and wander off if not attended, so a fenced in yard would be ideal.
