Honey at Plymouth Heights Pet Hospital Safe in rescue with Pet Haven! |
Reflections by Marilou, Board Member of Pet Haven Inc of Minnesota, President of MnPAW (Minnesota Partnership for Animal Welfare) and
Co-Founder of Leech Lake Legacy (a collaborative effort to help dogs and cats
at Leech Lake Reservation)
On Monday, 2/13 Honey was hit by a car and left to die.
Through the efforts of so many and the collaboration of Leech Lake Legacy and
Pet Haven, sweet Honey has been given a new beginning. Pet Haven, acted
quickly, took her into their foster program, ensured she had the necessary
medical care and on Thursday, 2/16 had surgery to repair her broken leg.
Honey’s overall care will cost Pet Haven almost $5,000. We believe she’s worth it, and we hope
you will too. The following video was created to share Honey’s story …
she is loved deeply and despite all she’s been through has the most
incredible gentle spirit and even looks like she’s smiling J

I’ve debated on how best to share Honey’s story and decided
to simply share links to my personal blog where I share from my heart, her
story, the importance of all of us working together on behalf of these precious
animals and how so many in the community stepped up to advocate for Honey, the
close call and the struggles of those of us in the front line of animal rescue,
and how an injured stray dog up at a Reservation 3 hours north of here touched
the hearts of so many.
Please consider making a contribution to help us reach our
goal of raising $5,000. Any amount you are able to donate is greatly
appreciated. Click here to make a donation. We would also like to thank and
acknowledge a very generous donation from an anonymous donor in the Rochester,
MN area. Many, many thanks!!!

Rory (Leech Lake Reservation Animal Control Officer); to Jenny Fitzer (Leech
Lake Legacy); Nancy O and Barb W for transporting Honey on such short notice to
the cities; to Bemidji Animal Care Center; to Dr. Cameron and the staff at
Plymouth Heights Pet Hospital; to Mary Ann (Pet Haven board member) for taking
the lead and thinking creatively and quickly to ensure Honey came into Pet
Haven’s foster program quickly and got the needed care; to the Pet Haven dog

respond to an urgent situation; to Pet Haven board of directors for their
willingness to take on the care of Honey and her medical expenses; to Dinie for
your willingness to foster Honey through her healing and recovery; to
Metropolitan Veterinary Referral Services; to everyone who helped spread the
