Adopted Dog Monday

Sammy came to Pet Haven from the Red Lake reservation. He was found as a stray and luckily found his way to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue. He was quite shy at first but after a few days at the shelter Sammy began to warm up.

Sammy was the model foster dog and after only 2 weeks and multiple applications he found his new home. Sammy is now living with a young family with two kids to grow up with. This is their first dog and they could not have found a better fit for their lifestyle.

Bella a sweet lab found her home last week with a couple that had been waiting for over a month for Pet Haven to get just the right dog in for them. Their college bound daughter was there at the adoption to help seal the deal. Congratulations to both families and their new furkids.

I like Mike...and so will you!

Would you like a cute dog?
....what about a dog that is willing to work for a treat?

...or how about a dog that you can take to a "Yappy Hour?"

....what about a dog with a sense of humor?

...or one that loves to just snuggle up after a long day of playing?

Then you have to meet Mike (aka Mikee) the chihuaha mix!!!Mikee is a handsome, playful guy that just loves to make those around him smile. And, according to his foster mom, he's quite good at it. Some of his favorite past times include:
playing with other dogs his size, sunbathing, long walks, destuffing his toys (it may be August but apparently it's snowing in Mikee's house) and of course his favorite hobby of all is showing you just how much he loves you by licking you....over and over and over again.
If you'd like to learn more about 4-year old Mike (and meet him too), check out his petfinder bio and submit an online application.
Don't forget to check out the video of Mikee playing with one of his toys!

Gracie Happy Tail

Gracie, a basset from People 4 Pets, is living the good life as a member of the 'horsey' set along with her basset sister Bea. That is Gracie on the right. Here is what their mom had to say:

"Big horse show in Iowa. We rented an RV. Gracie was a bit apprehensive at first. I think most of her road trips have ended with her getting dropped off in another place. Once we got there and she began to realize she wasn't about to be abandoned, her whole demeanor changed. Iowa is a big equestrian center, so we not only had the horses in the barn, but were surrounded by grazing horses. She was alert and curious but not at all bothered by these "strange creatures." Her big test was being in a crowded arena with lots of people and other dogs. Above is a picture of my daugter and I with the dogs. This picture was taken right after we came out of the show ring."

"Gracie is a happy girl. No worries, she is loved. She no longer runs from the vacuum cleaner. She does observe it from a safe distance but doesn't hide in another room. All in all, life is pretty good. I figure she spent 2 years being abused, she just needs some time and reassurance. She's snoring in her favorite chair as I write this." That is Gracie in the chair that used to be Bea's chair. Guess big sister has learned to share.

Happy girls, happy tails, happy life! Off into the sunset they go. The end.

Monty crosses the Rainbow Bridge

We received this update over the weekend from Monty's mom, Valerie.

"I am SO SAD to let you know that Monty (our Boxer) crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on July 5. He was diagnosed in late April with a rare form of bone cancer. The lump was removed but grew back before the incision could even fully heal. We made sure he was extra spoiled for those last 10 weeks with special treats, car rides, tons of love, etc. He was exactly 2 weeks shy of his 6th birthday. We miss him very much and the house is very quiet without him because he was so full of life and personality. Thanks to Pet Haven for helping us adopt this boy back in February of 2005. He had a great life. I'm attaching a photo of my handsome boy."
Rest In Peace, Sweet Monty. May you enjoy an eternal life of endless car rides, tasty treats and an abundance of belly rubs and ear scratches.

Adopted Dog Monday

Libby aka Liberty Bloosum Carter-her AKC name-now Lexi got adopted last week by her foster family. Libby came to Pet Haven with her "brother" Scooby-also adopted-from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue.

Two AKC registered Shelties are not what one would normally expect on the rez. Both dogs were lovingly cared for and given up only after the city of Gonvic found out the owner had two too many dogs.

Lexi joins a family of shelties. Her sisters Cali and Lili accepted her right away. Lexi's mom says she is the best behaved one of the three.

Looks like Lexi has found her comfy spot. Have a good life girly girl.

Cheers for the Poms!!

We are just loving the Pomeranians lately....and not just because they are cute and cuddly and oh so sweet...and did I mention they were cute? We've had four Poms come in this year so far and each one of them stirs up all kind of interest and activity on our website and at adoption events.

Remember Ollie? Ollie was the first Pom of the year to come in from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue and was adopted out to a wonderful lady, Paula, within a month or so of arriving in the Twin Cities.

Well Ollie, now Olivia, made an appearance at the 7/31 Adoption event as she was going in for her day of pampering at the PetCo Salon. Paula was very grateful to Pet Haven and couldn't stop gushing over her sweet little Olivia. We interrupted her spa treatments to snap a few photos of the lovely girl.
Congrats to Paula and Olivia...we hope to see you around other events in the future!

Adopted Dog Monday: Teddy

This is Teddy.

And with a face like Teddy's (and the loving personality to go along with it), we knew Teddy wouldn't be with Pet Haven long before he found his forever family. Agnes, one of our amazing fosters/volunteers in the Small Dog Division, took in Teddy as a foster dog a few weeks ago. Agnes and her husband headed out of town for a weekend and asked another volunteer foster, Krista, to watch Teddy. It didn't take too long for Krista to decide that Teddy was, in fact, going to be a permanent part of her family.

Here's Teddy with new mom Krista, Mittens the Siamese ragdoll cat, Jazzmin the 6lb yorkie and 12-year old human sister Jedah.

According to Krista, Teddy's been having a blast playing with the neighbor dogs and running around the local dog park. Krista's also a proud member of the Pet Haven Foster Failure club!!

Thank you Agnes and Krista for all you do for Pet Haven!

If you are interested in any of our adoptable dogs, please check out our Petfinder page.

If you've adopted a Pet Haven dog in the past, we'd love to hear how they are doing and feature them on our blog. Please contact editor@pethavenmn.org.

Adopted Dog Monday

Sherman, the handsome lab from People 4 Pets in Iowa, found a loving home last week. He is living with a young man who fell in love with Sherman at first sight. Joe was so excited about Sherman that he visited him everyday at Pampered Pooch where he was being fostered until the adoption could be finalized.

Here is Keith owner of Pampered Pooch Playground giving Sherman a good luck hug before going off to the home visit. Thanks Keith for fostering Sherman and the many other dogs you have housed while we find foster or adoptive homes.

Joe's uncle, Dr. Fleming one of the vets at Plymouth Heights Pet Hospital, was at the home visit to help Sherman get settled in. Plymouth Heights works with Pet Haven to provide reduced fee vet care for our homeless dogs. Thanks to everyone there for all of your help. Sherman, you have landed a gold mine here. Have a good life, buddy.
