Adopted Dog Monday!

Miss Savannah is headed on down the yellow brick road to her happily ever after! Savannah has been adopted by a friend of one of our foster families. Savannah's new mom is a teacher and therefore has the summer off. She is looking forward to using the last weeks of the summer to help Savannah transition to her new home (Savannah is a total sweetheart who does not deal with change well). Savannah is the only dog in the house, but has 2 feline siblings to snuggle with. This is a perfect set up for Savannah. Congratulations, Sav!

They call it puppy love...

Too cute not to share...Savannah (black lab) and Winston (springer spaniel) are fostered together by Laura L. They love each other and were caught snuggling at the end of our adoption event on Saturday.

Both of these furkids are good with other dogs and would do best in a home where they are not left for 8+ hours a day. Savannah is great with cats!

Savannah needs a foster home...

Most of our profiles for dogs that need foster homes are on a separate blog now, but this is a special plea for Savannah. Savannah is a 1-2 year old female black lab. She's been in Pet Haven care for a couple of months. She started out in a foster home where she was doing really well, but eventually she figured out how to jump their 4' fence and open the fence gate. In her foster home she lived with 3 other dogs -- big and small, young and old. She also lived with a couple of cats and some young kids. She did well with all of them. Once she started jumping the fence she was moved to one of our boarding partners where she has done very well with the other dogs, however, she's stressed by the environment. Extended stays in boarding are difficult for all dogs, but some handle it better than others. Savannah is not one of those dogs. She has lost weight and is now boarded at our vet partner with stress induced colitis. Savannah desperately needs someone to open their home to her on a temporary (foster) or permanent (adoption) basis. If you can offer a space in your home to Savannah, please email pethavendogs@yahoo.com.

Fun Facts About Foster Dogs

I thought a Friday near the end of the month would be a good time for an update on some of the dogs for whom we have put out foster pleas, either by email or on our foster dog blog. Most of them have found foster homes. To everyone who responded to our requests for help, a sincere thank you -- whether you were able to take a dog or not!

ALFIE is in a foster home with intent (to adopt) waiting for her second heartworm treatment next month. Her foster family loves her gentle spirit and is enjoying their time with her.

OSO is also in a foster home with intent. This lovable boy is living with another Rottie mix and both dogs are enjoying having canine companionship, something new for both dogs.

MISSY has a great foster buddy who has taken her home for the weekend. There are already three dogs and a cat in the home, including adoptable Pet Haven dog Andy, so Missy will be spending her weekdays at Pampered Pooch Playground.

RILEY, our nervous but oh-so-dear Springer mix is in his original foster home with Pet Haven. We are looking for a situation for him where people are around 24/7, such as a group home. Please put the word out for this boy. There is a right place for Riley -- we just need to find it for him.

SOPHIE, the Yellow Lab/Hound mix is going to a foster home this evening. Her new foster mom is new to Pet Haven and has no other animals, which may be the best place for Sophie as she is a little particular about which dogs she likes to hang around with!

MAGGiE, a senior Black Lab, has a home visit scheduled for this weekend. She came and went so quickly she didn't make it to our website, thus proving that being an older big, black dog doesn't necessarily mean that you are unwanted!

FLETCHER, now known as GEORGE was fostered with intent for a short while before his family decided to make it official. This cute chocolate lab is having a blast in his new forever home!

TUCKER, a Lab/Chow Chow is in a foster home with intent. Tucker's family is working on a couple of behavior issues with him, but are hoping to adopt him soon.

PORTER, formerly BUDDY is in a terrific foster home -- mine! ;) He's already generated some interest from an Aussie-owned family; meanwhile, he and my socially-challenged GSD Daisy have gotten past the awkward "let's just ignore each other" stage and were spotted playing together this morning.

SAVANNAH is still at Auntie Ruth's waiting for a foster home to open up for her. If you would like a sweet dark chocolate companion, let us know. You will not be sorry for welcoming this morsel into your home.

I think that's about it for today. Please keep spreading the word about our dogs. Your efforts make a difference. Many of our dogs have been placed in foster and adoptive homes through your contacts.

Savannah: A girl who knows what she wants

Savannah is a 1 year old black lab mix who knows what she wants...she wants attention, petting, love and more attention. Savvy, as she is known in her foster home, is a huge cuddler who cannot get enough attention from her favorite people. She loves to snuggle on the couch and will share the bed and keep you warm if you let her! She is also an excellent walker when she's wearing her Gentle Leader. She's still young, so she would benefit from a basic obedience class and she is still brushing up on her housetraining skills, but that should come along quickly.

Savvy is GREAT with kids. She loves to hang out with the 4 and 7 year olds in her foster home. She shares her home with several other dogs and a cat and all of the activity is a bit too much for her. She would probably be happiest in a home with a lower pets-to-hands ratio so that she can get more attention.

If Savannah sounds like the dog for you, please email pethavendogs@yahoo.com.

Meet Savannah at our special black dog adoption event next weekend (1/31/09)

Welcome to Pet Haven, Savannah!

Savannah is a 1 year old female black lab mix. She weighs in at 57 pounds and got a clean bill of health from the vet this week. She's currently hanging out in foster care where she shares her home with a couple other dogs (large and small, old and young), a couple of cats and a few kids. We don't know much about her background, but she seems to know her way around a house -- as you can see she made herself right at home on the couch.

Savannah and her fellow black dog fosters will be at our special black dog adoption event a week from Saturday. Please spread the word and come to check them out!
