Update on Koda: Another Happy Ending for a Pet Haven Dog

Koda is a Dalamation/Lab who was returned to Pet Haven in May after four years.   He was another casualty of a difficult economy.  His guardian was having to work so much that poor Koda spent most of his day alone.    In November, his new family came along to adopt him.  Here is a brief update from his dad.  Tucker is Koda's canine brother.


Koda is doing very well.  He has a lot of energy though usually he and
Tucker run around throughout the house and tire each other out.
(Aside from) a run-in with a farm cat in Iowa, he is very healthy and
energetic (he learned that cats have claws).

He is very good with the kids and has taken to sleeping on my
3-year-old daughter's bed.  He is a very good guard dog though he gets
particularly wound up when it comes to large, white trucks.


Koda also gets an a occasional ride in a small  airplane for a weekend at the family cabin.   


We at Pet Haven are always thrilled to learn that one of our dogs is living the good life!

Foster homes needed!

Availability of foster homes is one of the greatest limiting factors when it comes to determining how many dogs (and cats) we can rescue. The number of animals in need always far out strips the number of foster homes available. We are always looking for new foster homes.

Summer is a great time to try out fostering. We've past the major muddy paws spring season (finally and thank goodness!) and taking an evening walk is fun (instead of the freezing cold chore that it can be in the winter).

We have all kinds of dogs waiting for foster homes right now:

Pepper is a 1 - 2 year old male lab/collie mix who is currently boarded at one of our doggy daycare partners. He is good with dogs, cats and kids. He knows basic commands and appears to be housebroken.





Harold is a 6-8 year old lab mix. Harold has been hanging out at one of our veterinary partners and has made an appearance at one of our adoption events. He was a bit growly with other dogs, but this may well be just a stress reaction to new situations. We would love to get him into a foster home where he can have a few days to settle in and show his true colors. Harold is on the smaller side for a lab mix.


Enya is a middle aged sheltie mix. She does well with other dogs, but does not like cats. She is housetrained. She should be an easy keeper for almost any foster home. She was surrendered by a family because their 2 year old developed allergies. She is good with kids!




Jester is a 2 year old retriever mix. He has a longer coat than a lab - maybe a flat coat or golden retriever mix. He is very good with other dogs. Not known how he is with cats and kids, but he's a very friendly boy!





Koda (sorry, no photo, but he's cute!) is a 3 year old male lab/dalmatian mix who is currently fostered by one of our doggy daycare partners. He is a good boy who would love to be your summer walking partner. He has done well with the other dogs at his boarding facility.


These two girls are young Australian Cattle Dog littermates that are looking for a new home. They are very friendly with other dogs. They do not need to be fostered together.





We also have a few other dogs looking for foster homes that we don't get have pictures or much information for:

We are taking in two dogs from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue this weekend. We don't have any information on what type of dogs we are getting from them. We will take dogs who would benefit the most from getting into a foster home or who need additional medical attention. Dogs from Red Lake have special spirits and it is nearly impossible not to fall in love with them, regardless of their breed.

We also are looking at taking in a beagle and a shepherd mix if anyone out there has a special affinity for these breeds.

Adopted Dog Monday!

No "new" adoptions this holiday weekend -- but two pending adoptions were finalized.

Koda's foster-with-intent-to-adopt home has made it official. I think we can all agree that he looks very comfortable already, snoozing on the teenager's bed in his new home. Congratulations, Koda!

Madison, the Doberman, also went home this weekend. Her new family reports that Maddie is very entertaining and quite the character. Congratulations, Madison!

Adopted Dog Monday!

Three dogs who are extra thankful this week!

Little Ann came to us from Rosie's Red Lake Rescue a few weeks ago. She hung out at one of our boarding partners while waiting for a foster home. One of their employees fell in love with her and took her home as a foster...and Little Ann is staying as an adopted dog! We love "foster failures" (when a foster adopts their own foster dog).





Koda is a husky mix who went to a foster-with-intent home late last week. He has some new feline siblings and has never lived with cats before, so we are feeling out his dog-cat relationship skills before sealing the deal. So far so good with the cats and Koda loves his new canine sibling and his new teenager! Congrats, Koda!







Andy is a shepherd mix who will be headed to a foster-with-intent home tomorrow. He also has a new feline sibling and no known cat experience. He has done a meet and greet though and, while excited, all went well and we have our paws crossed that Andy has found his forever home!
