I like Mike...and so will you!

Would you like a cute dog?
....what about a dog that is willing to work for a treat?

...or how about a dog that you can take to a "Yappy Hour?"

....what about a dog with a sense of humor?

...or one that loves to just snuggle up after a long day of playing?

Then you have to meet Mike (aka Mikee) the chihuaha mix!!!Mikee is a handsome, playful guy that just loves to make those around him smile. And, according to his foster mom, he's quite good at it. Some of his favorite past times include:
playing with other dogs his size, sunbathing, long walks, destuffing his toys (it may be August but apparently it's snowing in Mikee's house) and of course his favorite hobby of all is showing you just how much he loves you by licking you....over and over and over again.
If you'd like to learn more about 4-year old Mike (and meet him too), check out his petfinder bio and submit an online application.
Don't forget to check out the video of Mikee playing with one of his toys!

Adopted Dog Monday

We have had three of our dogs from People 4 Pets adopted in the last two weeks. Bob is lucky to have found a new life with a couple that have another lab mix named Al, a beautiful home near their work, and a lake home where they spend three days out of the week. Stay tuned for updates on Bob's swimming and dock jumping abilities. Congrats to Merry, Aaron and Ian on your 4th adoption.

Buster was the last of the three springer/beagle puppies to find a new family. He is living with homeschooled children from 3 to college age. He will be part of the curriculum this summer including dog training classes. The kids were so excited to take Buster home.

Thanks Mike for fostering Buster. And for spending so much time with his new family giving them training tips.

Frankie a spaniel/lab mix found his forever home with an active family full of teenagers. He is another one of the family members going along to soccer games, picnics, and trips to the dog park. Thanks again Mike for taking Frankie into your home. And congrats on two successful adoptions.

Adopted Dog Update: Flopsy

We received an update from one of our more recent adoptive families on Flopsy who came in from People For Pets this May. Flopsy was adopted by a young family who already had a papillon named Lucy, who is very attached to the Dad. Mom and the two young daughters were excited to bring Flopsy into their family to spread the puppy love around for everyone to enjoy!
Here's an update from Sarah, Flopsy's new mom:
"Oh, she is sooooo sweet!!! We just love her. And no, Flopsy did not get a new name! Both my daughters won't let me. I don't think they understand the concept of changing a dogs name and they think I'm crazy for trying! So Flopsy it is!! She is doing really well. I'm so excited to say that she is WAY more attached to me than my husband!! She spent her first few days following me EVERYWHERE (to the point where she was exhausting me!) and trying to get out of our yard. I think she was trying to fine your husband!! We had to rig up our fence so she couldn't escape!! Now she is much more relaxed. She still follows me around a lot but after a while I will find her sleeping on the couch!! We brought her on her first boating trip last week. I was really nervous about it but she loved it! She was so good in the car and excellent on the boat. We stopped at a secluded beach and let her off her leash and she stayed right by us. We are taking her camping for the first time this coming up weekend. Wish us luck!!"
And here's a recent photo of Flopsy showing off her new summer hairstyle:
Congrats to Flopsy, Lucy, Sarah and the rest of the family!! And many, many thanks to Agnes and Chris for fostering this sweet girl!

Adopted Dog Monday

Adoption update from the small dog division!
We at Pet Haven have been busy, busy, busy! In addition to continuing to strengthen our community outreach and relationships by participating in local events like Pride Fest, we've been adopting out dogs just as quickly as they've been coming in! As a volunteer, this is just about the best part of working with Pet Haven....seeing these once hopeless animals go on to loving homes in the Twin Cities.

Within the past week, Radar and Flopsy, papillons from People For Pets in Spencer, Iowa found new homes. These two were previously used as breeder dogs so getting used to family life has been a new process for them.

Shown above is Radar with his new family,Dad - Jamie, Sister - Kate, Mom - Kim, and brothers Fred (smaller Eskimo) and Juneau (bigger Eskimo). Here's an update from Jamie, Radar's new Dad. "Please be assured how dedicated we will be to making Radar one of the family. Equal to and with our other two. We will be patient, astute, loving, affectionate and determined to making him safe, happy and confident in our home."

And we can't forget about Chucky who had a line out the door at the last adoption event at Calhoun Chuck & Don's. Chucky is going to his forever home tonight so I'm sure we'll have an update on him soon!

Hola Chica!!

Three-year old Chica is one of the newest additions to the Pet Haven family, she arrived on Laura's May 20th transport from People 4 Pets in Iowa. She's a beautiful black & grey German Shepherd/Husky mix. Don't let the salt & pepper coloring fool you...she's clearly a young girl and that's just her natural hair color!

Can we just talk about how sweet this girl is for a minute? I guarantee she'll melt your heart just as quickly as she did to us at Pet Haven and Pampered Pooch, where is she boarding. She's gentle and playful, just a curious little girl.
Chica was found on the streets of Iowa with her hubby, Bob, a two year old black lab that was also taken into Pet Haven last week. Not surprisingly, Chica is wonderful with dogs of all sizes and type. She's got a calm demeanor but don't be fooled, she loves to play just as much! Check out this video we received from our friends at Pampered Pooch.

For more info and pics, check out Chica's Petfinder bio. If you'd like to meet Chica or any of our adoptable dogs, stop by Richfield Petco on Saturday 5/29 from 10 - Noon.

May 20th Transport

We had a transport today of four beautiful dogs from People 4 Pets in Spencer Iowa. All made the four hour trek without complaining. While a little confused about their whereabouts all went through the transitions like they somehow knew the best was yet to come. Thanks to Pampered Pooch and all the fosters who opened their homes to take in one of these beauties.

Chica is a shep mix around 3 years old. She has a calm demeanor-kind of a go with the flow kind of gal. Hard to tell what she may be mixed with, possibly husky. She was found as a stray in rural Iowa with her "hubby" Bob.

Bob or "Bob the Builder" as he was called is a 1-2 year old lab. He is around 80lbs and ready to go wherever the action is.

Radar and Flopsy, a Papillon "couple", traveled together in the same crate. They are 6 and 7 years old and oh so sweet. They are purebreds and even have papers. Look for these dogs to be listed on Petfinder soon along with Pet Haven's other wonderful dogs.
