Adopted Dog Monday

This is a photo of Creek when he came into Red Lake Rosie's Rescue last fall. He had a big shoulder wound that had to be stitched up. Karen took good care of him until Pet Haven could transport him to the cities. Creek had many trials and tribulations here but finally found the perfect forever home. Here he is now and what his family had to say:

"Creek is doing fabulous. We are slowly but surely letting the cats & Creek sniff each other and get treats when they don't growl. It is pretty cute. Sometimes they approach each other when the other one isn't really paying attention, sometimes there is a little growl sometimes not. The sometimes not is really exciting!!! The birds are still in Jared's room. I think that one just might be too hard right now. Small steps, he is of course a bird dog. Wow when he hears them he has target fixation!! We are getting a pretty good routine going. It seems like he is really feeling like part of the family. Sometimes he would rather just get his food from the toy then his dish. Way more fun. He really likes car & truck rides. We have taken him to the park, he is doing pretty good by other dogs too. I think he is happy, I know we are! Thank you again for bringing Creek into our lives. He is very lovey & fits right in!!"

Adopted Dog Monday

Robby came to pet haven from People 4 Pets in Spencer Iowa. He was at the local impound there probably a result of a "free to good home" ad.

From his new family: We've been meaning to send you a note to update you on Robby, now renamed to Viggo. (Yes, we are a Lord of the Rings family -- Viggo Mortenson -- and our son & his wife liked this name, and we all agreed.) He is starting to respond to it and we are all getting used to it. He is an incredible dog and his transition to our home has been seamless. We bought him a nice bed (with the Thermarest-type cushion in it), and he sleeps in our bedroom at night, with his two sisters. :-) I get up really early for work and he doesn't even get up -- just looks at me and stays in his bed. We can't believe how mellow he is, but yet also likes to play and will run around. And you were right -- he is such a nice snuggler. Loves the hugs and to be petted.

I keep telling people that he is the perfect dog and that we can't believe how lucky we are to have found him. We all can't wait for spring weather to take him on walks. It's fun to learn things about him -- for example, he actually watches the TV, and he loves to watch the horses in our back pasture. He just seems like such an intelligent, observant dog. Can you tell how much we absolutely love him already?

Well, I'm definitely rambling on & on about him...Thank you so much for being a foster mom for Viggo and for all you do. We truly appreciate it and are so happy to have found Viggo.

Adopted Dog Monday

Joe now Jo-Jo was adopted by his foster mom. Here is what she has to say about this gorgeous boy:

"Jo-Jo is quite the character. When I began fostering him, he literally was by my side at every moment-no matter what. I have now had him a little over 4 months and he is still as faithful today as when I first received him. Jo-Jo loves going to the dog park, going on long hikes in the woods or a simple walk in the neighborhood. His favorite hobby is fitting as many tennis balls in his mouth as he possibly can-he is up to 3. He makes friends wherever he goes and everybody loves him to pieces. He is and always will be a lap dog, but I don't mind it a bit :)

Jo-Jo also has a big sister named Chanc. They hit it off right away! They love getting in trouble by persuading one another to do something they know they aren't supposed to do, but they are also such a pair and love each other A LOT!!!
The second day I had Jo-Jo I had a feeling I would adopt him and now Jo-Jo is an excellent addition to the family, it's like he was always meant to be here.

Jo-Jo will begin training this summer to become a registered therapy dog, just like his sister. I'm excited to see how this little guy changes peoples lives through is big brown eyes and his love for all. Lastly, since Jo-Jo's age wasn't known he was given his 2 year old birthday party on February 4th." Happy Birthday lucky boy!

This is dear Asa right off the transport van and in the vet's office. He looks a little worried. What he did not know is that in two short weeks he would be in his loving forever home. A friend of Asa's foster fell in love with him at first sight. And when his foster had to go out of town for business the friend stepped up to take care of Asa. Well Asa now Ronnie was right at home and was adopted last Saturday. Have a good life Ronnie!

Adopted Dog Monday!

Dudley the handsome black lab from People 4 Pets in Spencer Iowa found his forever home. After waiting for months and months for the right family to come along he finally scored the perfect fit.

His new mom, dad, and brother have always had black labs. Dudley was exactly what they were looking for. They were only planning a meet and greet. But once they met Dudley the family knew he was not leaving. Dudley has a huge yard to play in and a summer cabin with 45 acres to explore. Sometimes waiting pays off big time.

Adopted Dog Monday

Jackson the senior American Eskimo mix has found his forever home. His new mom fell in love with him at the adoption event and wanted to set up the home visit right away. Once in her home she was not letting Jackson go anywhere else. She was accustomed to having medical issues to deal with. So Jackson's cataracts and bladder stones did not deter her from wanting to add him to her family. We love it when a dog finds a home. But when a senior dog with special needs finds a home we are super excited. Thanks to everyone for helping Jackson through all of his vet visits, surgeries, and finally to his happy home.

Cocoa the lovely senior shep mix has found her forever home. Here is what her new mom had to say:
"Just a quick update on Cocoa: now that she has lost even more weight, she has become hard to keep up with! She RUNS out the door, RUNS to the car, RUNS down the sidewalk."

"Here are some pics of Cocoa from our day on the sledding slopes. I'm so happy she's ours for keeps!" Cocoa looks like she has quite the smile on her face. At least someone is enjoying this already long winter.

Yana the gorgeous runway model from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue found her forever home right before Thanksgiving.

Here is what her foster had to say:
I’m happy- and sad- to share that Yana now has a forever family. The happy family photo is attached. She also has a new name- Trixie. A first puppy for the kids, the family lost their dog in September. They even changed their holiday travel plans to stay home so that they could all bond this week with the kids home. We had our tears when we knew we were saying goodbye this morning, but Yana made herself right at home with them, which made it all worth it!

They said that they will eventually want another dog maybe in the spring and to keep them in mind if we have one that we feel would be a good match for them.

Adopted Dog Monday

Here is Darvin's first photo when he came into Red Lake Rosie's Rescue. He was starving and had mange. He also had a fixation with shadows and would pace around staring at them as long as you would let him. This is probably a result of being on a short chain with nothing else to occupy his day. In spite of his past he was such a loving dog.

After a few days at the vet and a couple weeks at his foster home, Rescue Buddy Boarding, the mange cleared up, Darvin's hair grew back and his ribs did not stick out any more. He was still doing his shadow dance but could be distracted easily with toys.

On Halloween Sunday Darvin got the best treat ever without having to do any tricks. He got his forever home. He has a mom that works part time so she is helping Darvin through the shadow chasing. His new dad delivers dog food to Chuck & Don's so Darvin will be eating high quality food. And Darvin can ride along in the truck to keep dad company. Diego is his new canine brother who was very excited to have a live in playmate.

Best part of the story is that Darvin will be going back up north every weekend but this time it will be to a wonderful cabin in the woods. His days will be filled with running, swimming, boating, and some lounging too. It is kind of a full circle for Darvin to end up enjoying life back where his life was so tough. The endless days on a chain are gone. Have a good life buddy boy.

Adopted Dog Monday

Thunder the beautiful Saint/border collie mix, was adopted last week. He went to live with a family with two young girls that were super excited to welcome him into their lives.

Here is what Thunder's foster had to say about the adoption day:

When we took him on the home visit last Sunday, the girls and mom, Krista, fell in love. The dad, Mark, wasn't convinced that such a big dog was the right choice, so they wanted to think about it. We got a voice message on Monday from Krista that they had talked about it, and wanted to add Thunder to their family.

When I brought Thunder to their home last night, the girls were outside playing with some neighbor girls. The neighbor girls knew that a new dog was coming, and everyone wanted to play with Thunder. A neighbor across the street called out "is that your new dog?"

We went inside to do the paperwork, and the 2 girls were so excited to have Thunder home. They showed me all the stuff they'd bought for him: a big bed, leash, harness, a big rawhide bone. When I left they were getting ready to take him on their first walk.

Thanks to Thunder's fosters who had a hard time letting him go. Saying good-bye to a foster dog is one of the downsides of fostering. But the big excited smiles on the faces of the new families makes the heart ache a little less. And then there is always another homeless dog waiting for your home to open up. And once again your heart is full with the joy of a new dog. If you are interested in fostering please email dogs@pethavenmn.org. Thanks in advance.

Adopted Dog Monday

Sammy came to Pet Haven from the Red Lake reservation. He was found as a stray and luckily found his way to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue. He was quite shy at first but after a few days at the shelter Sammy began to warm up.

Sammy was the model foster dog and after only 2 weeks and multiple applications he found his new home. Sammy is now living with a young family with two kids to grow up with. This is their first dog and they could not have found a better fit for their lifestyle.

Bella a sweet lab found her home last week with a couple that had been waiting for over a month for Pet Haven to get just the right dog in for them. Their college bound daughter was there at the adoption to help seal the deal. Congratulations to both families and their new furkids.

Adopted Dog Monday

Libby aka Liberty Bloosum Carter-her AKC name-now Lexi got adopted last week by her foster family. Libby came to Pet Haven with her "brother" Scooby-also adopted-from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue.

Two AKC registered Shelties are not what one would normally expect on the rez. Both dogs were lovingly cared for and given up only after the city of Gonvic found out the owner had two too many dogs.

Lexi joins a family of shelties. Her sisters Cali and Lili accepted her right away. Lexi's mom says she is the best behaved one of the three.

Looks like Lexi has found her comfy spot. Have a good life girly girl.

Adopted Dog Monday

Sherman, the handsome lab from People 4 Pets in Iowa, found a loving home last week. He is living with a young man who fell in love with Sherman at first sight. Joe was so excited about Sherman that he visited him everyday at Pampered Pooch where he was being fostered until the adoption could be finalized.

Here is Keith owner of Pampered Pooch Playground giving Sherman a good luck hug before going off to the home visit. Thanks Keith for fostering Sherman and the many other dogs you have housed while we find foster or adoptive homes.

Joe's uncle, Dr. Fleming one of the vets at Plymouth Heights Pet Hospital, was at the home visit to help Sherman get settled in. Plymouth Heights works with Pet Haven to provide reduced fee vet care for our homeless dogs. Thanks to everyone there for all of your help. Sherman, you have landed a gold mine here. Have a good life, buddy.

Adopted Dog Monday

We have had three of our dogs from People 4 Pets adopted in the last two weeks. Bob is lucky to have found a new life with a couple that have another lab mix named Al, a beautiful home near their work, and a lake home where they spend three days out of the week. Stay tuned for updates on Bob's swimming and dock jumping abilities. Congrats to Merry, Aaron and Ian on your 4th adoption.

Buster was the last of the three springer/beagle puppies to find a new family. He is living with homeschooled children from 3 to college age. He will be part of the curriculum this summer including dog training classes. The kids were so excited to take Buster home.

Thanks Mike for fostering Buster. And for spending so much time with his new family giving them training tips.

Frankie a spaniel/lab mix found his forever home with an active family full of teenagers. He is another one of the family members going along to soccer games, picnics, and trips to the dog park. Thanks again Mike for taking Frankie into your home. And congrats on two successful adoptions.

Adopted Dog Monday!

We've had an exciting couple of months here at Pet Haven and the best part is that deserving dogs are getting a 2nd (or 3rd...or 4th) chance at a happy and safe life.

From our small dog division of Pet Haven, we've had several happy tails come true in the last couple of weeks.

Harvey, the grey Shih-tzu in the photo above, was one of our lucky pups who just recently found his forever home. Way to go Harvey! And thanks to foster volunteer Vicki for loving this guy until his new family was found.

Chucky was another Shih-tzu that was brought in with Harvey. Here's a photo of now Chumley with his new mom, Pat. Chucky received lots of attention at our adoption event and we're so happy we found him the perfect forever home! Thank you Lisa for fostering Chucky!

And then there's sweet little Mia. Mia was only with Pet Haven for a couple of weeks before she found her amazing forever family. Mia now has a Mom, Dad and two human brothers who were so excited for her to come home that they made her this beautiful "Welcome Home, Mia" sign shown at the top of this post!
And many thanks to Michelle and Karen for fostering Mia.
We wish all of our Pet Haven dogs many long years of good health and happiness in their new homes. Please tell your families to keep us updated on your new life!

Adopted Dog Monday

The last two weeks have once again been good ones for our large dogs finding their forever homes. We had 3 big dogs and two puppies adopted.

First we have to give a big shout out to Pepper and his new "official" mom Leah for signing the adoption papers on Saturday. Pepper/Zipper/now Cooper has been hanging out with Leah for months now. He has been in our program for over a year. Of course Cooper felt like he was home all along. It took Leah a bit longer to commit. Have a happy life together you two!

This is Beau the beautiful coonhound with his new family. He has lots of kids to play with, a mother-in-law home all day to keep him company, and a huge backyard they all can hang out in.

Congratulations to Jackie and Jerry and son Sam for adopting out your first foster.

And a second congratulations on your next adoption Jackie of Romeo the speagle puppy to this wonderful family. Romeo is a lucky boy to have all this love and attention.

Louie, Romeo's brother, found his new home too. This family actually met Beau as a possible new dog but just were not ready to adopt yet. But they came back to Pet Haven when Louie arrived. Congrats little man. And congrats to Nicole on her first adoption.

Captain the hilarious basset is living within walking distance of his foster's home. This makes Cindy, Bobb, and Elanor very happy because they can visit Captain often. Captain was adopted into a very basset friendly home complete with a doggy ramp for when his short legs get too tired for stairs. Thanks Cindy and family for fostering so many dogs in a row.

Adopted Dog Monday

Adoption update from the small dog division!
We at Pet Haven have been busy, busy, busy! In addition to continuing to strengthen our community outreach and relationships by participating in local events like Pride Fest, we've been adopting out dogs just as quickly as they've been coming in! As a volunteer, this is just about the best part of working with Pet Haven....seeing these once hopeless animals go on to loving homes in the Twin Cities.

Within the past week, Radar and Flopsy, papillons from People For Pets in Spencer, Iowa found new homes. These two were previously used as breeder dogs so getting used to family life has been a new process for them.

Shown above is Radar with his new family,Dad - Jamie, Sister - Kate, Mom - Kim, and brothers Fred (smaller Eskimo) and Juneau (bigger Eskimo). Here's an update from Jamie, Radar's new Dad. "Please be assured how dedicated we will be to making Radar one of the family. Equal to and with our other two. We will be patient, astute, loving, affectionate and determined to making him safe, happy and confident in our home."

And we can't forget about Chucky who had a line out the door at the last adoption event at Calhoun Chuck & Don's. Chucky is going to his forever home tonight so I'm sure we'll have an update on him soon!
